Where was I?
I was at home, safely tucked
away in my kitchen watching
TV, when I saw it happen
When I saw my country change
What did I see?
I saw a nation call out to you
I saw a nation come together
I saw a nation that prayed
even to a God whom they did
not believe in or trust in
What was I afraid of?
I was afraid that my sons
were of drafting age
I was afraid of war and
violence and suffering
I was afraid for the families
who lost their loved ones that day
What do I see now?
I see a nation that once again
needs to humble itself
that needs to pray
that needs to love
that needs to trust
I think often of this scripture in 2 Chronicles 7:14--
My people, my God-defined people, respond by humbling themselves, praying, seeking my presence, and turning their backs on their wicked lives. I'll be there ready for you: I'll listen from heaven, forgive their sins, and restore their land to health.
This is my prayer--
for my nation, my family,
my friends, and neighbors.
This is my prayer...
